"In the desert we are all illegal aliens."
This is the heart wrenching true story of the border crossers known as the "Yuma 26."
On a fateful day in May, 26 men went into the desert to try their luck at crossing the border from Mexico into the United States. Their group got lost, their coyote stole all of their money and left them in the desert to burn.
It's a miracle anyone survived, yet 12 came back out.
Luis Alberto Urrea tells this story in such vivid prose and details that it's one book you won't want to put down until you're finished and even then, it's a story that will stick with you long after you're done. I think it's a very important story that everyone should read and it's one book that I'm glad I own.
